Pepper had a mammary tumor that had gotten so large it was starting to limit her movement. She’d lick the tumor incessantly and had actually made two rather large bloody spots the width of her tongue on the bottom of it. On top of that, her back legs started swelling and she had skin issues (all from the cancer spreading).
Miss Willy had a similar tumor and our veterinarian warned me that the tumors would eventually rupture, if they made it that long, or I could wait until they let me know it was time.
How I Knew It Was Time For Euthanasia
The kicker was Pepper’s leg swelling and Miss Willy’s tumor which started dripping small spots of blood on her feet.
Pepper’s lymph nodes more than likely were getting blocked and it would only be a matter of time before the rest of her body succumbed to the disease. And the rat, well, she would be expecting a similar fate.
So, with heavy heart and lots of distress, Pepper and Miss Willy made that final car ride.
Losing a pet is never easy and we understand the heartache you feel knowing that the time is drawing near for your beloved companion. Trust me, after having pets for more that 35 years, I’ve got tons of stories about the pets I’ve loved.
I’ve held the paws of many dogs in their last moments with my tears falling on their face as I kissed them goodbye and said, “You were a good boy” or “You were a good girl.” It’s hard writing about it actually but I know as a pet parent it’s a necessary and responsible action we all must make.
We’d like to help you in your time of need. In order to do that, we’ll be offering Loving Goodbye Pet Services.
